The Balance
Finding and maintaining a work-life balance is not an easy thing to do. For me, it has taken time to figure out my balance. Sometimes I feel like my life is crazy, but then I remember that I have everything planned.
A little look into my life…
I have 2 puppies, a full time job (that I absolutely love), and I have my art which brings me so much joy. On top of that, I have myself, and my boyfriend to make time for. At first, I had no idea how to even approach trying to juggle all of this, but then I got organized. I created a spreadsheet that lists out everything I have to do by day, for work, art, and personal time. When I plan, I always give myself a time cushion for each category. That way, if I need to take a longer break than normal, or if something comes up, my schedule doesn’t get totally thrown off.
Each day, my schedule is full, but I do not feel stressed. I work with my team at my full time job during the day, plan to complete 2 art pieces a night, and then block out time for myself later in the night. I try not to plan out my art using time because no two pieces take the same amount of time. By planning for 2 pieces a night, I can consider an estimated time and be able to stay on track. My weekends look a little different though. After work on Friday, my weekends are reserved for everything personal; my dogs, my boyfriend, and myself. It’s a time of relaxation, though sometimes I do work on my art during the weekend. This is rare, but typically happens right before a release. I don’t mind giving up my weekend time because my art brings me so much joy, and I get so excited about prepping everything for a release! All it really means is that I am getting that much closer to sharing my joy of art with you!
Balance is so extremely important, and I am so blessed that I finally found a system that works for me. Have you considered what you could do to help your work-life balance?
