In Full Bloom
If you asked me where I would be with my art 2 years ago, I’m not sure if I would’ve expected to be here. Back then, I was painting what was comfortable. Right out of college, I thought that is the path I would stay on. Today, I have grown tremendously, explored mediums, surfaces, and sizes outside of my comfort zone, and I have worked to share joy with you through my art. Wow. So many great things have come from community support of a hobby and given me the opportunity to create more!
In Spring 2018 through Spring 2019, I had the opportunity to represent the floral designs of Oscar De La Renta. At the time, I thought flowers were beautiful, but it wasn’t until I researched that I realized how amazing flowers and floral designs are. No matter how they are portrayed, no flower is ever the same. This, along with their beauty, is what began my passion for florals. Learning meanings, representations, and the nature of floral color palettes brought my passion home.
This was a subject that I could paint as many times I wanted, while still maintaining the uniqueness of each pedal, color, and meaning without even trying. That is the true beauty; the art and subject speak for themselves. Once I explored books, florists, designers, and the botanical garden, I knew I had to shift my artistic focus and begin creating these amazing elements of nature, flowers. Working with watercolor as a new medium, I wanted to work more with smaller sizes in a sketch format. This way, I feel like I can be more free with what I am painting and have the opportunity for more practice. This is my first ever series using watercolor, so it was very scary at first when I decided to release them in March. However, the fear is gone, and I’m just enjoying painting knowing that I am growing. I know these sketches are not perfect, but they aren’t supposed to be! This series, and the series to follow, are going to act as baseline for my larger collection coming summer 2021. I love that I am able to share my inspiration creations with you, and can’t wait to see what the summer collection holds being based off series like this one!
